The Nigerian billionaire, Dr. Alexander Okafor is a native of Umudim, Nnewi in Anambra State. He is the owner or founder and C.E.O of Chicason Group of companies. He is a successful Nigerian entrepreneur from a poor family background of a palm wine tapper father and a fish-seller mother. He was still a little boy during the Biafra-Nigeria war and had to support and provide for his family just after his fathers demise when he was just 8. He sold Akara on the streets with his mother and later got an Nnewi traditional apprenticeship experience from his Uncle just after selling newspapers & magazines to grow his 500 capacity poultry farm while in school.

After learning business ropes and subsequent settlement by his uncle, he began supplying Ghanaian fishermen with fishing materials until 1978 when the late president of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings closed borders on the importation of foreign goods which made him to come back and launch Chicason Electronics shop in Anambra, Nigeria with products like Televisions, Fridges and others sourced from Lagos.

This lasted until he was inspired by friends of mainly his age to venture into clothing, and he did go into fashion with a capital of $50,000 on female fashion and accessories sourced initially from Hong Kong. This move turned out a huge success for him, thereby enriching his purse and improving his business portfolio. By 1997 has continued his business empire to cut across lubricants, food commodities, real estate, detergents and many others.

Furthermore, the successful Nnewi-born entrepreneur, Alexander Chika Okafor is a fellow of many professional bodies including the Institute of Corporate Administration (FICA), Nigerian Institute of Sales Management (FNISM) and Nigeria Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE). He has held various offices in business and social organisations including President, Nnewi Chamber of Commerce as well as Patron, Nigeria – South African Chamber of Commerce. He is also the current Patron, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and the owner of A-Z Petroleum.
